Site Changes

Eagle-eyed readers will spot that the previous blog theme – beautiful, ethereal, unreadable to anyone with impaired eyesight or using recognition software – is no more. A clearer, more efficient theme is now the order of the day!

The new theme also features a background of the Crystal Palace, constructed to house the Great Exhibition of 1851. Both the palace and the exhibition were representations of absolute modernity and progress to the Victorians. London was the centre of the world, the hub of industry, power, and profit. Naturally, therefore, it functions as another one of those neo-Victorian touchstones, peeking over the shoulder of all sorts of protagonists in all sorts of neo-Victorian texts.

(Does this drawing technique – fine pencil lines, shading, etc – have a name? It will be gratefully received in the comments if so)
