Vesta Tilley, not to be confused with…

…Ella Shields (1879-1952), a.k.a ‘Burlington Bertie from Bow’:

Vesta, in contrast, had a smash with ‘Burlington Bertie, the Boy with the Hyde Park Drawl’. Now, Ella sang ‘Burlington Bertie’ in 1915, quite some time after Tilley. Wikipedia – yes, I know – suggests that Sheilds’s performance was a parody of Tilley’s.

One of the world’s earliest neo-Victorian moments, perhaps?
